The project was carried out in challenging mountainous terrain and was aimed at compliance with NERC FAC-003-1 by surveying both the transmission line and surrounding vegetation in extremely high resolution. The capability of the system to record up to four return pulses for each emitted pulse allows the canopy, sub-canopy and ground surface to be defined, enabling the worst vertical extent of a vegetation violation to be captured. The system emits infrared laser pulses at 200,000 times a second, ensuring the worst lateral extent of a vegetation infringement is also captured.

Deliverables for the project were created on a short time scale to enable a rapid response to violations.
