Mining

Network Mapping has bespoke solutions for the mining industry using both aerial LiDAR and terrestrial LiDAR technology.

New mine infrastructure & extraction projects

Network Mapping has acquired topographic datasets in heavily forested and remote regions across the globe for the purpose of aligning infrastructure for new extraction projects. This includes new roads, pipelines and rail, and even an aerial cable car! Previous project locations include glacial foreland in Greenland and the rainforests of South America.

  • Topographic models (even below forested areas)
  • Route appraisal
  • Remote examination and analysis
  • Horizontal and vertical route alignment of new infrastructure
  • Estimations of overburden for a given site

Low-cost fixed wing surveys of operational open-pit mines and quarries

  • Volumetric analysis of piles for stockpile calculation, payment of crushing contractors etc
  • Drainage analysis

Terrestrial scanning of mining assets

Our terrestrial scanning equipment can be used to produce detailed as-built 3D models of existing mining assets, such as mine head structures.

Applications

  • Quantitatively map areas of movement to verify insurance claims
  • Risk maps for insurance premiums
  • Hazard monitoring
  • As-built survey of above-ground assets

Hazard monitoring of former mining areas

We are able to fly repeat surveys over areas prone to earth movement as a result of previous mining activity. The topographic survey produced for a flight is compared mathematically to that produced for a subsequent flight. Any change between the two, either up-sidence or subsidence, will be recorded and reported. This is done remotely using the aerial LiDAR platform and does not require ground crews to enter a hazardous area.

Applications

  • Quantitatively map areas of movement to verify insurance claims
  • Risk maps for insurance premiums
  • Hazard monitoring
